If you have been playing MLB The Show 26 for any stretch of time, you already know how the Dynamic Difficulty system works in theory. You hit a couple of absolute bombs, and the game rewards you by nudging the difficulty bar up toward Legend. You go through a cold streak or strike out swinging at sliders in the dirt, and it drags you right back down.

But what happens when the system gets completely stuck? Or maybe you took a break, came back, and the game still thinks you have the reflexes of a pro esport player when you really just want to casual-grind some runs. Strangely enough, San Diego Studio has never included a simple, one-click "Reset Dynamic Difficulty" button anywhere in the menus.

If your background difficulty scaling is glitched—or if you just want a completely fresh start—you have to get a little creative. Here is a breakdown of the three best ways to reset or manually manipulate your Dynamic Difficulty settings without breaking your current save files.

Method 1: The Settings Tweak (Fastest Profile Reset)

This is the cleanest and fastest method available. It clears out the cached difficulty scaling data running in the background without touching your actual saved franchises or Road to the Show characters.

  1. Head over to the Main Menu and click on the Settings gear icon located in the top-right corner of your screen.

  2. Navigate into Settings and then select Gameplay.

  3. Find your difficulty setting and toggle it away from Dynamic over to any fixed tier, like Rookie or All-Star.

  4. Look for the Dynamic Difficulty Sensitivity slider and turn it all the way down to 0. This effectively freezes any background calculations.

  5. Save your changes and back entirely out to the main menu so the game registers the new state.

  6. Now, go right back into the Gameplay Settings, flip your difficulty option back to Dynamic, and set the sensitivity slider back to your preferred level (the default is 5 if you want standard scaling).

Method 2: The Exhibition Method (The "Suck on Purpose" Fix)

Dynamic Difficulty uses a universal tracking system across all offline game modes. If you want to drop your difficulty level down several notches without messing with file deletions, you can use a throwaway exhibition match to force the algorithm's hand.

  • How to lower it quickly: Fire up a standard, casual Exhibition game. When you are up to bat, simply put your controller down and let the pitcher strike you out repeatedly. When you are on the mound, throw soft meatballs right down the middle and let the CPU hit home run after home run. After just an inning or two, your dynamic progress bar will plummet.

  • How to lock it in: Keep an eye out for the in-game notification showing that you have dropped to your ideal baseline tier (like Veteran or All-Star). The moment it appears, pause the game, open the settings, and drop your Dynamic Difficulty Sensitivity to 0. This locks you into that specific sub-tier permanently until you decide to change it.

Method 3: Deleting the Global Profile (Total Hard Reset)

Sometimes the settings profile is completely glitched. If you are batting .900 over fifty games and the game refusingly keeps you trapped on Beginner, the underlying system data might be corrupted. A total hard reset of your local profile file is required here.

  1. Completely close out of the MLB The Show 26 application on your console.

  2. Open up your console's primary storage menu. On PlayStation, go to Settings > Saved Data. On Xbox, go to Manage Game and Add-ons.

  3. Locate and delete only the User Profile / Settings Data file. (CRITICAL NOTE: Do not touch or delete your Franchise, March to October, or Road to the Show save files. Those are stored independently of your global user settings profile.)

  4. Boot up the game again. Because your profile file is gone, the game will treat you like a first-time player and launch the initial onboarding boot-up screen. You can select "Casual" or "Simulation" and let your dynamic difficulty journey start completely from scratch.

Core Settings Every Player Should Know

To keep this from happening again, keep these two fundamental mechanics of the engine in mind:

  • Dynamic Difficulty Sensitivity: This slider dictates how fast the game reacts to your gameplay. Lower numbers mean it takes many more plate appearances or pitches to shift your level. Cranking it up makes adjustments highly aggressive, while dropping it to 0 locks your current level exactly where it stands.

  • Independent Progress Tracking: Keep in mind that your hitting and pitching metrics live in completely separate bubbles. Striking out ten times in a row will tank your hitting level, but it won't do a single thing to ease up the difficulty if you are dominant on the mound. You have to tweak or reset both disciplines independently depending on where you are struggling.
